Spraying air freshener or using aroma therapy to give the impression of comfort in the room was needed. But should be noted first that there are people with asthma or allergies that are around there. Because the materials identified fragrances and aromatherapy can aggravate allergies and asthma.

“The chemicals in these products can lead to nasal congestion, sneezing and runny nose. For people with asthma, there are data showing that lung function changes when exposed to these compounds,” said Dr. Stanley Fineman, an allergist at Emory University and Allergy Clinic & Asthma of Atlanta.

Dr. Fineman is the president of the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. He explained that many allergy sufferers who underestimate this and lack of awareness about their own health risks.

“Many patients say that they do not increase in allergic symptoms associated with exposure to air freshener compounds,” says Fineman.

According to him it is not all the compounds in fragrance products that improve allergy symptoms. However, air freshener products, aromatherapy candles, electric air freshener, and aromatherapy seems to burn much more frequently used.

“Most people with asthma are chemically very sensitive, and considers obnoxious air freshener products. Most of the products of commercial perfumes and air fresheners have been mixed with chemicals and potentially cause irritation,” said Stanley Caress, professor in the department of environmental studies at the University of West Georgia.

A study in 2009 conducted by Caress and Anne Steinenmann at the University of Washington found that nearly a third of people with asthma also have an exaggerated sensitivity to chemicals and irritation due to scented products.

“The more ingredients there are chemical fragrances around the patient, the greater the chances of asthma attacks. Patients with asthma should try to avoid artificial fragrances products,” Caress said as quoted by ScienceDaily, Tuesday (08/11/2011).

Coax also said that his advice also applies to products labeled “natural”. For some allergy sufferers are also sensitive to natural objects such as wood, or the smell of certain flowers.

Fineman suggested solutions more UNIL. According to him, there are other ways to make homes smell, for example, by baking a cake.
