Size differences between left and right breasts can predict the risk for cancer. According to one study, if the difference in size is bigger then it should be checked frequently because of the risk of cancer tend to get bigger.
Almost all women have breasts with a slightly different size between the left and right. This difference is called breast asymmetry and generally do not cause serious disruption, even rarely been reported to interfere appearances.
But according to research published in Breast Cancer Research in 2006, differences can also be used to predict the likelihood of someone affected by breast cancer. The bigger the difference in size, the greater the risk of getting cancer.
Differences were not seen large-small bra size is used, but the density indicated by the weight of each breast. In that study, the mass density in breast tissue was measured with a special instrument called a mammograph.
Any difference of 98.82 grams on both sides of breasts, increased risk is as high as 50 percent. However, the study found no difference in size that much, the average size of both breasts only disagree 48.19 grams to 57.6 grams.
The study involved 504 adult women with average breast size of 479.1 grams. Of the many volunteers were involved, only one person who actually breast size symmetrically or equally between the left side to right.
“Previous studies showed that breast asymmetry associated with estrogen. The hormone is also one of the factors that influence breast cancer risk,” said one researcher, Diane Scutt, PhD, as quoted by WebMD, Sunday (08/05/2011).
Although the results of this study indicate a close relationship between breast asymmetry with the risk of cancer, Scutt says there are many other factors that influence it. So he said, the important thing is that routine screening can detect the slightest risk as early as possible.
