One of the causes of colon cancer (colon cancer) is caused by the wrong diet. It turned out that often eat fried foods and red meat also can trigger the occurrence of colon cancer.

“From the morning the community was treated to fried with oil that is used many times and contain toxins that can damage the intestinal wall,” said Dr. W. Sudoyo Aru, MD, PhD, FACP in the event of Gathering Patient Sanofi Aventis ‘Colon Cancer Can Be Prevented’ at Hotel Sahid Jaya, Saturday (14/05/2011).

Dr. Aru said in making fried usually use oil that has been used repeatedly to contain toxins and free radicals. Besides the oil itself can also trigger the formation of bile acids in the intestine, bile acids can irritate the intestines.

“Red meat is cooked at high temperatures can produce acrylamid compounds that can cause cancer,” said the doctor who served as chairman PAPDI (Specialist Doctors Association of Indonesia).

Dr. Aru tells us there are some things that could be a risk factor of colon cancer are:

  •     Diets low in fiber and high in fat
  •     Age, generally increasing in the age group above 50 years
  •     The presence of polyps in the colon or large intestine
  •     A history of colon cancer in the family
  •     Inflammatory bowel disease to untreated
  •     The habit of eating red meat
  •     Lack of consumption of vegetables, fruits and fish
  •     Lack of physical activity
  •     Being overweight or overweight
  •     Having a smoking habit

Colon cancer is a malignancy that occurs in the colon to the rectum and more upon men. It is estimated that about 75 percent of colon cancer patients are not aware if he caught them, because the symptoms are not directly visible but not appear until many years later.

“This type of cancer is the most preventable (most preventable) and strongly influenced by the environment,” said the doctor who was born in Washington DC 59 years ago.

Symptoms arising from colon cancer generally are:

  •     Bleeding in the colon that is characterized by the presence of blood in the stool during bowel movements
  •     Changes in bowel patterns such as a hard, soft or small stool
  •     Weight loss for no apparent reason
  •     Pain in the abdomen or the back
  •     Stomach still feels full despite having a bowel movement
  •     Sometimes appear in some common symptoms such as constipation, pain or bloating in the abdomen

Early detection can make stool examination to look for occult blood, doing a colonoscopy or stool examination for DNA testing (this test is more sensitive).

This cancer generally move slowly and quietly, will take approximately 15-20 years to develop, so it is important to be detected early.

“Most people are reluctant to go check the symptoms of colon cancer to the doctor because of embarrassment or even not to think he might be exposed to this cancer. In fact the detection of this type is the easiest procedure and simple,” said Dr. Ibrahim Basir, SpB-KBD-RSCM FKUI .

For it is necessary for early detection and screening to reduce suffering and increase life expectancy, because the disease can be cured if caught early and can be prevented with a good lifestyle.
