Breast cancer is one type of cancer that women fear most. Apparently the biggest triggers of breast cancer cases is the accumulation of fat or obese.

The researchers from Cancer Research UK reveals that the biggest driver behind the causes of breast cancer is obesity, followed by alcohol and then a new cigarette.

The results of this study is the latest and published in the British Journal of Cancer which suggests that obesity should be the top of the breast cancer risk factors. This condition is also influenced by lifestyle owned by women.

Existing data indicate that the majority of women who develop breast cancer is caused by sensitivity to the hormone, which means that growth is driven by hormones. With the amount of fat stored in the body will increase the levels of these hormones.

The study found that postmenopausal women with estrogen and testosterone levels are high, have 2-3 times the risk of breast cancer compared with women who have low hormone levels.

The study was conducted by a team from Oxford University, funded by Cancer Research Inggrus by studying nearly 6300 post-menopausal women and looking for factors that make a person more prone to develop breast cancer than others.

“This is an important study because it helps show how alcohol affects weight and hormone levels, thus helping women understand what are the things that can affect breast cancer risk,” said Dr Julie Sharp of Cancer Research UK, as quoted by BBC News, Tuesday ( 07/26/2011).

Dr. Sharp said that the risk of disease can indeed be influenced by family history and age, but women should know that there are other risk factors that could be modified to help reduce the risk of disease.

“Maintaining a healthy weight and reduce alcohol consumption is the key to reducing the risk of breast cancer, and women should be made aware of it.
